Lions Youth Brass End of Tour Concert

We were up early for breakfast this morning as we had to pack up all our stuff and clean the accomodation. With the help of everyone in the band, Ty Clwyd was looking spotless in no time!

We set off for our perfromance in Oswestry at around 10am.

Following a lovely buffet lunch, the band performed to a small audience, lets be honest, it’s all about the quality and not the quantity.

At the end of a tiring week, the band did well to maintain their focus and produced yet another solid perfromance. Their were a number of excellent solo contributions by Isabel, Rhys, Suzanna and Callum.

After the concert, we set off for our home town, Sandbach, for our end of tour meal. Big thank you to the Wheatsheaf for providing a delicious afternoon!

We then walked over to Sandbach High School, Derek did want us to march over but this idea was not appreciated!

Sandbach High School is the venue for our traditional end of tour concert, hosted by the Rotary Club of Sandbach

After setting the stage and greeting our family and friends, it was time for the concert to begin. The band kicked off their programme with a new piece called Road to Run.

During the first half, their was excellent solos again from Natasha and Sophie. Also our star, Daisy Dalton, gave us her version of the tap dance in Singin’ in the Rain.

The first half was brought to a close with one of the bands favourite pieces, The Conquest of Paradise.

After the interval and possibly the longest raffle in history, the band was introduced to the audience in sections during 500 Miles.

We then went into some solo perfromances by a number of this years leaving players which included, William Dakin, Cameron Brooks and Isabel Capewell. We were also treated to a Tenor Horm feature, Rag-Time for Horns, which featured another of our leavers, Hannah Mills.

It was then time for the traditional end of tour speaches from our two band representatives, William Dakin and Sophie Barwick. This included several funny stories from the week including, the fiesty and competetive Melissa, hillside tabogganing, the annual rounders match and the new up and coming mischief maker, Kai.

The Committee members that went on tour were then surprised with some lovely gifts from the band, however, this also included some ‘joke’ presents as well, including a CD for Nigel of his ‘favourite person and a rounders set for Carol.

The band then played another couple of tour classics including, I Will Follow Him and YMCA featuring this years dance troop.

Then followed the presentation to this years leavers, Cameron Brooks, William Dakin, Caitlin Ottley, Hannah Mills, Isabel Capewell and Edward Shirvington.

Cameron was also presented with the most prestigious award of the year, Bandsperson of the Year.

Retiring band representative, Will Dakin was then given a gift for the brilliant job he has done over the last two years.

The band were then joined in the percussion section by Charlotte, to test out our new bass drum. Also featured in this piece was Natasha Brett and Caitlin Ottley.

Nigel then gave the end of year thanks, before the band finished with their signature tour piece, Can Can which bought the concert to a fun and rousing conclusion.
